No and yes. It depends on your definition of ‘cry it out’. Many sleep training methods place a child in their room and walk away letting their child cry themselves to sleep- our courses DO NOT advocate this process.
Our courses are designed with the child’s cognitive development in mind so each course is slightly different- our new-born sleep shaping advice does not involve any crying.
Crying is a child’s way of communicating. It is important to correctly assess their communication and identify distress. Our courses educate parents in this skill and ensure children are NOT left in distress at any point during our techniques.
However, it is worth noting- extensive research shows that no harm is done to children who are not immediately comforted when crying providing it is appropriate to their development stage; harm is only caused by neglectful parenting or prolonged crying and distress. Our techniques involve educating parents in understanding the different kinds of cries your child will exhibit and when to intervene to ensure your child doesn’t become distressed during the self soothing process. We do not advise that children are left to cry continuously without comfort. The older the child and the more sleep crutches the child is used to, the more fuss that is involved in sleep training due to disrupting their ‘normal’ and crying is an innate communication for all things from ‘confusion’, to ‘frustration’ and ‘overtiredness’ in young children. That being said, our courses see results in a matter of days: we guarantee the amount your child will cry when following our sleep training guides will be significantly less than if you never sleep train! Our sleep courses are also known to improve happiness, overall demeanour and reduce overall crying.
